Synopsis
Will awakens to the faces of a skeleton, a ghost, and a mummy after being born into a new world following a life of stagnancy. The three raise Will as their own in the remains of a long-dead city. Blood, the skeleton, teaches him how to fight; Gus, the ghost, teaches him how to use magic; and Mary, the mummy, teaches him religion and duty. Most importantly, they all instill in him the value of love. Will prepares for the day when he must ultimately walk out on his own as he grows up and learns about the world he was born into. For Will, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Every adult must swear an oath to the god of their choice at their coming-of-age, with the strength of the promise affecting the degree of their sworn god's blessing. Will must prepare to embrace the truth of his undead guards and venture into a world that even they don't know the state of as his departure approaches. Will, on the other hand, learns that every oath must be kept in some fashion.
