Synopsis
Returning to planet Earth in 1999, five space pilots discover that the planet has been destroyed by thermonuclear war. During their travels, the explorers are captured and forced to compete to the death in Emperor Daibazaal's arena, but eventually escape and make their way to planet Altea which has been taken over by the Galra Empire. There, they learn of a powerful sentient robot called GoLion which, quite possibly, is the only thing powerful enough to defeat the emperor's forces. Legend says that millenia ago, GoLion was consumed by arrogance and attempted to defeat a goddess in battle. Despite having been victorious in other battles against various Beastmen, GoLion lost this battle and was taught a lesson of humility by being separated into five robot lions and scattered across the planet of Altea. There, they would wait until the day those would arrive who would awaken him to battle once again.
