Synopsis
Ninja Gabimaru the Hollow, has been given the death penalty, is apathetic. Gabimaru feels that he deserves to die because he has lived a bloody life. But every attempt to kill him somehow fails. Finally, a young member of a renowned executioner clan named Sagiri Yamada Asaemon is ordered to kill Gabimaru, but Sagiri refuses to carry out the request. She offers Gabimaru the opportunity to receive a full pardon for his sins, insisting that he won't perish out of love for his wife. His freedom will be guaranteed if he can go to the island of Shinsekyo, find the elixir of life, which is believed to bestow immortality, and bring it back to the shogun. However, not a single person who has journeyed to Shinsekyo in search of the fabled Elixir has ever returned in good health. Gabimaru decides to accept the offer—along with eleven other death row inmates—despite being oblivious of the many risks involved in the hopes that he and his wife will be able to live in peace for the first time.
