                                                      A Spiral into Madness

Now today I will discussing the Manga Uzumaki. Now before I go onto to talk about the Manga note that this Manga includes disturbing content such as people being bent in abnormal positions and desperate situations. Now onto the review.

Now the story of this Manga as I observed is a bit choppy in how it is played out. In general we are kept in the shadows on to what is happening in the story as it progresses only to truly find out in the end. This is not to say it is not original since I never heard of a story where a town is infected with something known as the spiral that drives a town and it's people to madness. One aspect I liked is how we are mainly in one character's shoes as they observe the effects of spiral in her town. This would explain why we are kept in the shadows as to what is happening since we see the world through her eyes as the events unfold.

Still the Manga could have done better if it spent time in the beginning slowly explained the story rather then have chapters used just to try and creep us out. When I think about a lot of the chapters were not even needed to tell the story and I myself find that disappointing. But you can also think of it like a new small story at the start of every new chapter showing the effects of the spiral.

The main set of characters in this Manga are Kirie, Kirie's boyfriend Shuichi and her family. There are side characters in the Manga but they tend to become victims of the spiral getting roasted alive or turning into slugs. Now is you recall I said we were one characters perspective most of the time this person is Kirie. She seem like a normal teenager who becomes the spectator of the un-folding horror. Her boyfriend Shuichi who is a bit crazy in the head due to certain events is the one who seems to know what is happening to the town. Now note this Manga is only 20 chapters long so there is no real character development to be seen in this small time frame. I can say is that the characters in this Manga are not really likable and you won't hate them either. At least if I hated them watching their deaths would be more enjoyable. But enough on that the characters were never the strong point of this Manga.

On the subject of death you should expect to see plenty of that as we see the town become consumed by Spirals. Now the horror in this Manga is not the kind that trys to scare but trys to mentally disturb you. Thanks to the excellent art in the Manga every encounter with spiral is beautifully disturbing. The Manga never holds back when these scenes come up so expect plenty of gore because there is always more. As for how you react to the horror it will depend on the person some will want to puke others willing find it simple thrilling.

So overall this Manga is short and worth the general read. So if you like non-stop gore-galore and having your mind twisted this Manga is for you. Tell me what you think about this Manga and if you would read it. If you have read it how did you feel in general?

The art is lovely and sort of intricate for manga.

Is it more psychological interesting than horror?

No you won't see the outside of people but expect to see some of their insides at times though.

I agree about the horror genre being weak. Most horror in general feels weak at times to try to be "scary". That is most likely the main fault and strongest point in viewing something relating to horror. Although if this horror manga is really that good then I will consider reading it...Hopefully there are no tits distracting from the plot. :P

Well as for today's Anime this is very true the horror genre is weak providing mild horror. I know not long ago (90's) had some decent horror Anime. But unlike Anime is more of a business and as such trys to make money.

Never was huge on horror but manga always seems to outshine anime in this genre. Wish there was more focused in horror anime at just being a gritty horror and not focus on characters as much. Anime is normally so predictable since you can tell whose going to die just based on the type of character development they get.
