To be honest I am actually disappointed with the PS3 and it could have been better if Sony didn't try to reinvent console gaming.
Their decision to use the Cell Microprocessor (http://bit.ly/7SFy3) instead of a x86 (http://bit.ly/yfUMu) or a x64/x32 (
http://bit.ly/17Np65g) processor was terrible.
It made developers have an extremely hard time with coding their games for the different hardware.
I can understand why they did it, it was supposed to increase speeds (It didn't) but it did, however, increase stability.
Another downside made the PS3 able to overheat like the XBOX 360 was the fact that all of the processor's cores were in use at any time. Although, the Xenon Processor (
http://bit.ly/niuDt) was not a whole lot better.
In addition to all these problems, PS3 games are going to die out quicker than other console games simply because for compatabily with x86/x64/x32 processors, the games will have to be reprogrammed in order to be used by other consoles and the games can't be
preserved on the internet for use with emulators when the games do die out.
However, Sony's idea to slim down the PS3 for noise and energy control was nice. But, the fact that any version above the first generation 20 and 60 GB NTSC PS3s didn't have full backwards compatibility with PS2 games.
With the ability to remove the 60/20 GB HDD and install a higher GB one, I got the first generation.
