Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai
2/09/2014

Animation Studios: AIC Build
Episodes: 12
Genre(s): Romance, Comedy, Harem, High School, Club
Synopsis: Kodaka just transferred to a new high school and haven't made any new friends. One day though, he met Yozora talking to herself in a classroom alone. There they discussed with each other about how they both don't have friends. It was then decided that Yozora should start a club and force Kodaka to join...Comedy ensues....

I shouldn't like this anime but I do. I mean all the characters in the anime is pretty well done but may be generic to some. Then again, the characters are what I like about this anime. Plus, there is a character for everyone in this anime. For instance, there is a tsundere, little sister, blond beauty, mad scientist, and a trap (guy who looks like a girl) in the anime.

Like all harem anime though, there is only one guy character, Kodaka. However, there is never any side guy characters besides the trap in the anime. Is this bad then? No, not really. It is pretty standard of most harem anime to have only one male character.

On the bright side, many of the female characters are funny. Often they would say lots of sexual jokes but it sounds so dirty at times that it is funny to me. In fact, this is the type of comedy I really enjoy. You know the talking about dirty things without showing  any panty shots. That is what I expect from a perfect comedy.

The plot on the other hand is very episodic. Sure there are characters added each episode but after a while, it feels as though they don't really do anything. They mostly try to accomplish certain goals each episode by the end of the anime.

Overall
Slacker Kodaka-kun.

Its like I said, the female characters are what make this anime funny. Romance is hinted at times in different episodes, although it doesn't last as long as the comedy moments. There are some parts where Kodaka becomes a little bit serious when childhood memories comes up. Too bad it doesn't last very  long.

My favorite episodes of the anime is the second episode. The second episode is the one where they play video games as a club. They play monster hunter and play a love simulator. The other episode that I like is the last episode that was told in Yozora.

Moving along, the animation is what I enjoyed about this anime as well. It really look cutesy along with the red blushes. Oh! I remember now. The hair is really awesome as well for Kodaka.

Lets be honest here as well. Music in anime is very bland, especially in this one. The japanese voice cast on the other hand sound a little bit mature and a little bit awesome.

All in all watch this for the female comedy displayed by the characters  and the ending is good enough for the second season to come in.

The only anime I have recommended for this anime is my teen romantic comedy snafu. It really feels similar to that anime but the anime is a little bit more serious.

Hey review is here, may contain some mistakes. can you spot them? Just kidding, read theawsome blog for a new review.

Kyoko in all her glory

***There are some spoilers included in this review***

Skip Beat is one of the few anime I enjoyed with a female MC (Main Character). It is also one of the few romantic comedies that left me wanting to see more. Furthermore, I have grown a connection to this anime relating to the problems that I am currently facing in real life.

The main character, Kyoko, finally broke off her relationship with her childhood friend top idol, Sho. Also, Sho was just using her. Anyway,  no longer will she be the pure Kyoko he always knew instead she will become his worst enemy, at least she hopes so. In order to achieve her goal though, she must become the best actress in the entertainment world.

To become the top actress, Kyoko must change herself. Thus, her adventures in the anime heavy focus on her trying to change. Many obstacles come in her way such as Tsuruga Ren. Additionally, she struggles with not believing in love and  despises the thought of loving someone. However, she is perfectly fine with liking other people as friends. She is a complicated individual who still believes in fairy tail stories, likes all types of cute stuff relating to fairy tails.

As a side note, she is very determined person which I wish I could be. Then again, her determination stems from wanting revenge against sho which is a bad reason to want to change yourself. Of course throughout the anime, she succeeds in changing herself in a good way but there is still that part of her that cannot accept loving someone because of the scar left by Sho.

In a way, I been harboring similar feelings felt by Kyoko. I want to change myself just like Kyoko but not for revenge. I want to become a better person for the sake of being a better person. Although, I wish the most that I had Kyoko enthusiasm and demeanor to out right show her feelings of distinguish and hatred. Instead for some reason I still like the thought of pleasing other people other than my own. It is a struggle that I am going through along with mental health issues.

Kyoko with her randomness.

Moving along, this is a somewhat serious anime dealing with Kyoko's problems but it still reflects her struggles trying to accept a new love and dealing with Sho. It also, reflects a lot of comedic moments that never deal with panty shots or inappropriate sexual scenes which I am really happy about. As you all can tell, I hate those types of scenes and it will most likely feel out of place in this anime.

If I had to sum up how this anime felt in few words, I would say it felt like a drama romantic comedy anime. In fact, I might have made it seem too much of a serious anime. On the contrary, I laughed so hard, I couldn't breathe. I also couldn't think of anything that I dislike about the anime, except for one thing.

The ending was bad to me personally. It left me with a feeling that there was still a lot of things left over as well as didn't answer the question if Kyoko will end up with Sho or Ren. Plus, I read the manga and the anime really did leave off at a place that was bad. Furthermore, she was getting better at acting and would have met one of her greatest enemy in her struggles, if the anime had continued a little longer.

On the plus side, there wasn't anything else that the anime struggled with. Music in Skip Beat! was awesome and melt perfectly in each and every scene in the anime. Although sadly, there is only the Japanese voice cast right now for the anime. So, don't expect any English dub to come out soon.

On the top of my head, I simply cannot think of an anime series that have strong comedic female lead but I can think of another anime that has a strong female character and a funny female lead:

Twelve Kingdoms: A serious story anime that has a strong female character. A lot of philosocial elements are also in the anime that might touch upon your feels.

Lovely complex: A funny romantic comedy that has a funny female lead. Story-line deals with both the male lead and female lead having a complex about their heights.

Where can you watch the anime?: Crunchyroll

Keitaro and Naru in his fantasy. Pretty much sums up this anime.

The main character Keitaro Urashima has failed twice to enter Tokyo University; he really wanted to marry his childhood friend who he does not remember. To make matters worse, his parents are forcing Keitaro to move out. Lucky for Keitaro, he received a phone call from his grandmother to visit the Hinata Inn. Once he arrives there, he learns the Inn has become a female dormitory and he has an opportunity to become the manager. Thus our comedic story begins...

Keep in mind, Keitaro does not remember what the name of his childhood friend is. So, he has to put together the pieces in his mind to figure out who his childhood friend is and succeed in getting into Tokyo University. Therefore, most of the anime storyline takes place between him battling his wits over Tokyo University and solving his past.

Moving along here, there are some female characters that distract him at time but it is quite clear in the anime that Naru and Keitaro will hook up eventually. All that is needed is simply for both of them to admit that they like each other. Granted I did feel there was a possibly he was going to hook up with Mutsumi but she just wanted Naru and Keitaro to have a relationship together:-marriage. They really could have used mutsumi more but oh well.

Anyway, really do enjoy the comedy the most in the anime rather than the story-line. Naru constantly hits Keitaro, deserves it for being an idiot. Also, there are those moments where the misunderstandings about relationships are funny. I would really like to go into more details about how funny this anime is but disclosing about the jokes is not fun for people. Bear in mind though, that most of the jokes are sort of sexual and misunderstandings.

Sample of the comedy

Love Hina is a perfect anime except for a few things. First off, the English dub is really terrible. Secondly, the anime quality isn't the best if you are used to the more modern anime but may be unique to you then. Thirdly, the opening of the anime is great but the rest of the music is disappointing.  Finally, the ending of the anime wasn't good. In fact, you should read the manga for a better ending. Plus, you get to see Naru in her wedding dress: Spoilers.

The following are good anime recommendations:

Negmia: Similar style but a better harem, you want that right?
To love ru: A modern take on anime fill with panty shots for your delight.
Boku wa tomodachi ga sukunai: Similar to the harem type of setting but more focus on one male and female lead as well.

Anyway, TheAwsome and I decided to do a collaboration together for Valentine's. I will do a review on the first day then TheAwsome will post a review the next day and then alternate every day until February 14! Some of the reviews may contain good or bad anime, who knows. However, all of the reviews will be love comedy because everyone watches love comedy during Valentine's day, right? or am I just the weird one here? I am the weird one here aren't I?....

Characters and Plot
my teen romantic comedy SNAFU pciture
Hikki  on the left, Yui (pink hair) on the right, and finally Yukino (black hair) on the far right.

*****Spoilers are included in the review. Please read at your own discretion.*****

Hikki is a rare person you would want to meet in real life. He is very clever and can analyze all your faults; mind you, he will be harsh to you about your faults. This sharp harsh honest bluntness of his, has lead him to being alone. He says he likes being alone, however I think we can agree he looks happy when he interacts with people. Plus, he is one of the few people in the anime world that would admit he knows his own limitations and can avoid certain situations he wants to. The one thing I really love about him-is how much he doesn't like people and admits he likes to be alone.

Yukino, just like Hikki, has a harsh blunt personalty but she thinks she is superior all the time. She is also harsher than Hikki when it comes to conversations. Yukino liked being alone as well in the anime until, she met Yui which made her days brighter than they were before. Also, she doesn't hate people but view them like ant workers. And She can be very hard to approach when you want to solve your problems.

Yui on the other hand, is a puppy like character that likes to please people. She is the type of person who doesn't want to cause conflict in any group, her personality makes her seem like a ditz air head. Ironic then, that she likes Hikki. In fact, she would try throughout the anime to get Hikki to like her but he stops her each time because he already knows she likes him.

Moving along, the plot basically boils down to Hikki being alone in school because of a car accident. He thought he would be able to start a new in highschool but resigned himself to always being alone. Thus, he began to hate everyone around him and find everyone's fault to comfort his loneliness. Too bad for him, his homeroom teacher didn't like his attitude and forced him to join the service club. There he meets Yukino and begins his wonderful romantic comedy life, just kidding.

Conclusion
Discussing about plans, you know the usual.

Its not very romantic, sure is funny though at times with his witty jokes. Also, he has hilarious monologues and banter with other people. I am happy to say too, there are absolutely no panty shots and very few sexual jokes. It made me so happy to watch this anime in peace without having to think about anything else...

Anyway, most the anime has Hikki and the gang solving people's problems and Yui trying to get Hikki to like him. In fact, I was hoping she would hook up with Hikki. Too bad for me, the plot didn't really solve if Hikki was going to end up with everyone. Furthermore, I kind of wanted him to hook up with Totsuka the trap (guy who looks like a girl).

I will say this though, all of the main character's inner problems has been solved. However, Hikki and Yukino still like being alone and Yui still is trying to get Hikki's love but they are at peace towards the end. It didn't help though, that the ending left the anime pretty open about who Hikki might end up with. I would like to think that happened because of the 13 episode limit of the anime.

On the other hand, the animation was average and same with the music. Although, the music never got in the way of the dialogue being spoken in the anime. Plus, the Japanese cast was fairly good at speaking their lines and voicing their character.

Overall you should watch this great anime because of Hikki's dialogue and the witty jokes made in this anime along with the jokes about the homeroom teacher's age.

The following is a list of anime to watch if you like this anime:
  • Hyouka - Both of the main male characters are clever in solving problems but in this anime the main male character is not as harsh as Hikki.
  • Toradora - The main female character is bossy, you like tsundere women don't you?
  • Boku wa tomodachi ga sukunai - Main character doesn't have any friends, and a loner but want to have friends; so what better way then to make up a club? They are similar right?

Hey guys remember to keep an eye out for my friend TheAwsome cause he is posting a review tomororw. Then I will post a review and so on and on and on and on until the 14th. Follow me on twitter @albelcasting or subscribe  to me here on otaku elite, I'm so lonely. =(

Log Horizon - One of the best anime I seen in 2013

With the year of 2013 coming to a close, I have come up with a wishlist of things I want seen in at least one anime next. My wish list is the following:
  • A fantasy world setting.
  • An adventure that is longer than 12 episodes but not longer than 64 episodes!
  • No harem or romance in the anime that distracts the plot.
  • A main character that isn't naive or stupid.
  • Comedy that doesn't result as of physical harm to characters.
  • Little to no fan-service in the anime.
My wishlist is generated from what I grown sick of seeing in an anime. I'm not asking for much though; all I expect is a compelling story I will remember from the anime. That is it. However, that is asking to much from the current anime generation because of market saturation. I suspect my expectations will be too high.

For that matter, plenty of the anime already set to release in 2014 deal with romance as being a major ingredient in the plot. This in my opinion, have always been a bad thing since not every romance anime out there is interesting to watch.  You're also creating the atmosphere for anime to be mostly about romance and not about engaging topics or have interesting story-lines.

Predictions

It is interesting that Naruto Shippuden is supposedly going to end in the mid-2014 at least according to the author of the manga. With that said, there is nothing on my radar telling me that we have any replacements for the Naruto Shippuden and Bleach. In fact, the current talk about the anime has been mostly reflected on One Piece and Fairy Tail.

Sometime in 2015 we might get a new anime that has the same  level of enthusiasm and support of those two anime tv shows but not in 2014. There is no manga out there right now that is popular enough to release an anime in 2014. Instead, we will get a great original anime tv show that doesn't rely on a manga for the back story but not have the same support as Naruto Shippuden and Bleach.

About 7-10 anime will have some type of cute animation style. This in turn means that those cute animation style anime will also have comedy in it and deal with either romance or cute girls doing something. Above all though, these same 7-10 will only be about 12 episodes long.

Above all though, we will have about 90% of all anime made in 2014 to deal with romance or have romance in the anime make it a major plot point. Other than that, the year 2014 will be a disappointing year for me to watch because of romance comedy anime.

So, what do you guys want in 2014 for Anime?
